Making Scones

Preheat oven to 190C

Ingredients:

350g self-raising flour
1 1/2 tea spoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 table spoons icing sugar

Sift all dry ingredients in large bowl twice,
in another bowl mix together

150mls milk
150mls cream
45g melted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla essence

Make a well in the dry ingredients
and pour the wet mixture in the hole.
Mix together using 2 butter knifes and be careful that  you don't over mix it. Put it on a floured surface and gently press with your hands, grab a 5cm cutter and cut 12 scones. Place on oven tray lined with baking paper and in the oven it goes for 10-15 minutes till lightly golden.
My favourite is to eat them with strawberry jam and butter - enjoy!

The Dell

Hi my name is Ebony and I am going to be your tour guide for Auroa schools Dell.

Well the Dell used to be a forest then a ditch. But now it is a beautiful  Dell surrounded by trees, flax and other native  plant’s.

If you are wondering what a Dell is , it is a small valley.A valley is two mountains side by side and a little steam in between.

Do you know what is in the Dell? There are two stages, the first stage is shaped like a leaf and the second stage has all different shaped squares and a little bird house.

There are also swings and two playgrounds near it.Do you know who built it, it was the PTA and mr Chittenden. PTA stands for parent, teacher, association.

We can walk in the Dell on the path. We can also play on the stages and of course the swings.

The traithletes

On Wednesday the 18th of March. Room 3 from Auroa School travelled to Opunake Event Centre to meet three international athletes. They have come to New Zealand for a world cup triathlon, in New Plymouth. In each world cup you are only allowed 75 men and 75 women to participate in the event. The athletes names were Daniel,Roberto and Miriam. Roberto Miriam are brother and sister. Daniel speaks english and italian. Roberto's speaks some english and spanish. Miriam speaks some english and her native tongue is spanish. Do you know that their sponsors pay them for wearing their shoes, clothing and gear because some people may think it is cool and will go a buy it. Miriam’s true dream is to be a doctor. Daniel’s dream is to in the military. Roberto’s true dream is to do forestry and native science. They are studying and working to do this while they travel the world competing in triathlons. They have to train for 4-6 hours a day. Also they have to train on their birthday and christmas. Now I know that I should try my hardest at everything I do if I want to be good at something.
